Forcan Ridge (Summer): Grade 2 Grade reference

Route overview

This classic Kintail round tackles two outstanding Munros, featuring one of the mainland's finest ridge scrambles. Ascending via the sharp crest of the Forcan Ridge to the twin-summited peak of The Saddle, the route then traverses to the rocky crest of Sgùrr na Sgìne before a steep descent over Faochag. It is a superb, high-quality outing for experienced hillwalkers.

Terrain and underfoot

The route features a mix of excellent stalkers' paths, rough mountain tracks, and pathless boulder fields. The Forcan Ridge offers exposed scrambling with a tricky downclimb, though a bypass path exists. The descent from Faochag is unremittingly steep and often wet. The final section requires crossing the Allt Mhalagain, which can become impassable in heavy spate, requiring a detour along its western bank.
