A tactical Munro holiday planner Beta

Stay closer to the Munros you still need

Choose how far you’re willing to drive. We’ll rank Scottish bases by the unfinished Munros they unlock and shape the strongest walking days into a practical trip.

More useful than “near the mountains”

How the best Munro base is worked out

1

Start with what’s left

When you’re signed in, completed Munros are removed before any base is scored.

2

Use real road times

Every base is compared with route starts using Munro Planner’s Scottish road-time matrix.

3

Build distinct hill days

The suggested itinerary avoids counting the same summit twice and favours days that add the most to your round.

This is a planning aid, not a claim about live accommodation availability or hill conditions. Cottage prices and availability are confirmed on Snaptrip; weather, access and route suitability still need checking before each day.
Affiliate disclosure: Munro Planner may earn a commission when you book through a cottage-search link, at no extra cost to you. This never changes the base ranking.

Choosing a holiday cottage for Munro bagging

The best place to stay for a Munro holiday depends on your own round. Fort William can be exceptional for Lochaber and the Mamores; Braemar or Ballater can unlock a dense Cairngorm week; Crianlarich and Tyndrum work well when southern Munros dominate your list. A broad “central Highlands” search misses that difference.

Munro Planner compares the routes you have left with a drive-time limit you choose. That makes the recommendation useful for an experienced bagger with a scattered list as well as someone planning their first dedicated week.
