Route overview
A classic, high-level circuit traversing three Munros around the impressive amphitheatre of Coire Àrdair. Starting from the Aberarder nature reserve, the route ascends the broad slopes of Càrn Liath, follows a scenic ridge over Stob Poite Coire Àrdair, and crosses the vast, cliff-fringed plateau of Creag Meagaidh before returning via a dramatic corrie.
Terrain and underfoot
The terrain is highly varied, beginning on well-constructed gravel and stone-pitched paths through regenerating woodland. Higher up, the route follows grassy ridges and stony mountain paths. The ascent of Càrn Liath is a sustained grind on rougher ground, while the high plateau of Creag Meagaidh is vast and stony, requiring careful navigation. The descent from The Window into Coire Àrdair is very steep, loose, and eroded, before joining an excellent path back along the glen.
