Route overview

This classic circular outing from Victoria Bridge pairs two contrasting Munros on the edge of the Black Mount. Stob a' Choire Odhair offers straightforward walking and expansive views over Rannoch Moor, while the grander Stob Ghabhar provides a more dramatic experience, featuring a fine narrow ridge and a scenic descent alongside a cascading waterfall.

Terrain and underfoot

The route uses good estate tracks and a well-graded stalkers' path for the first peak. The transition to Stob Ghabhar involves a very steep, loose, and eroded scree climb. The descent via the Stob Maol ridge is straightforward until reaching the waterfall, where a very steep, eroded, and scrambly path requires careful footwork. The final crossing of the Allt Toaig can become difficult or impassable during periods of spate.

Victoria Bridge car park and remote station approach

The car park is about 300 metres before Victoria Bridge on the minor road from Bridge of Orchy. Walk along the road to the bridge, where our recorded route begins. The recorded route returns to the car park, so only the short outward link is additional.

Unmarked parking roughly 350 metres south of Victoria Bridge. Keep the turnaround and access open.
