Route overview

This classic, demanding horseshoe circuit from Glenfinnan traverses two rugged Munros. Starting beneath the famous viaduct, the route climbs onto the high, undulating ridges of Sgùrr Thuilm and Sgùrr nan Coireachan. It offers a long, satisfying day on rough, grassy, and rocky crests with superb, expansive views over the wild bounds of Knoydart and Loch Morar.

Terrain and underfoot

The outing begins on a tarmac estate road before transitioning to a boggy, pathless hillside on the initial ascent. The high ridges are characterized by a mixture of faint, worn paths, grassy crests, and rough, rocky steps. The descent from Sgùrr nan Coireachan is initially very steep and eroded over broken rock, but eventually eases onto an excellent, zig-zagging stalkers' path that leads back to the glen.
