Route overview

This classic horseshoe circuit traverses four Munros on a high, undulating ridge north of Glen Strathfarrar. Offering expansive views across the northern Highlands, the route combines grassy ridges, stony plateaus, and a scenic descent past a mountain loch. The long return along the glen road completes a substantial and rewarding day in a quieter, highly regulated glen.

Terrain and underfoot

The initial approach is boggy before giving way to excellent walking on high, grassy ridges. Several sections feature awkward boulder fields, particularly near the summits of Càrn nan Gobhar and Sgùrr a' Choire Ghlais. Navigation is generally straightforward on clear ridges but requires care in poor visibility. A well-constructed stalkers path eases the steep descent, followed by a flat six-kilometre walk back along the tarmac glen road.
