Route overview

Beinn Alligin is a classic Torridon horseshoe, offering a compact but steep mountain outing. The route climbs two Munros, Tom na Gruagaich and Sgurr Mor, before traversing the rocky pinnacles known as the Horns of Alligin. It provides exceptional views of the surrounding sea and neighbouring peaks, combined with enjoyable, hands-on scrambling along a well-defined ridge.

Terrain and underfoot

The route follows clear paths throughout, but the terrain is exceptionally steep and rugged. The ascent of Coir nan Laogh is sustained, while the ridge sections involve airy but straightforward scrambling, particularly over the Horns of Alligin. A bypass path exists but is slippery and often more hazardous than the crest. The final descent is very steep over sandstone terraces, requiring careful footwork and minor scrambling.
