Route overview

This classic Cuillin excursion climbs into the spectacular rock-walled amphitheatre of Coire Lagan before tackling the high ridge of Sgùrr Mhic Chòinnich. Starting from Glen Brittle, the route transitions from a well-constructed path to a rugged, hands-on mountain day. It offers dramatic, airy scrambling and magnificent views over the Atlantic islands, making it a highly rewarding outing for experienced scramblers.

Terrain and underfoot

The approach begins on an excellent pitched-stone path, becoming increasingly rough and rocky towards Coire Lagan. The ascent to the ridge is via a very steep, loose, and unstable scree slope. Beyond the bealach, the route requires sustained, highly exposed scrambling on basalt rock, which becomes exceptionally slippery when wet. Precise route-finding is necessary, and a short, very steep crux section demands confident movement on steep ground.
