Route overview
This demanding outing explores the rugged southern reaches of the Black Cuillin on Skye. Starting from Glen Brittle, the route climbs into the spectacular, slab-fringed sanctuary of Coire Ghrunnda before tackling the rocky ridges of Sgùrr nan Eag and the complex, hands-on peak of Sgùrr Dubh Mòr. It offers exceptional rough scrambling and dramatic, airy island vistas.
Terrain and underfoot
The route transitions from an excellent pitched-stone path to rough, trackless mountain terrain. Expect massive glaciated slabs, extensive boulder fields of high-friction peridotite, and steep scree. Reaching the upper corrie requires a moderate scramble beside a waterfall, while the peaks demand sustained scrambling, culminating in a difficult, highly complex scramble to reach Sgùrr Dubh Mòr where precise route-finding is essential.
