Sgòr Gaoith
Sgòr Gaoith, from Glen Feshie
Route overview
This classic Cairngorms outing ascends from the beautiful pine forests of Glen Feshie onto a vast, high-altitude plateau. The highlight is the dramatic summit of Sgòr Gaoith, which stands on the brink of immense cliffs dropping vertically to Loch Einich, offering superb views across to the giant western corries of Braeriach.
Terrain and underfoot
The initial climb follows an excellent, well-graded forest path before transitioning to rougher, eroded trails on the open hillside. Once on the plateau, the terrain is mostly easy-going moss and gravel, though navigation becomes highly demanding in mist. The optional descent over the Geal Chàrn ridge is largely pathless, crossing heathery slopes and occasional boulder fields.
