This classic loop from Glen Dochart climbs two contrasting Munros, Sgiath Chuil and Meall Glas. Starting from Auchessan, the route explores scenic glens before tackling the high, grassy ridges. While the summits offer expansive views across the Southern Highlands, the deep, steep-sided pass separating the peaks makes for a satisfyingly physical day out in typical upland terrain.
Terrain and underfoot
The terrain is a mix of estate tracks, faint boggy paths, and extensive pathless sections over wet moorland. The descent from Sgiath Chuil into the Lairig a' Churain and the subsequent reascent are exceptionally steep and can be very slippery on wet grass. Good navigational skills are required on the pathless high ground, and crossing the Allt Riobain near the dam may be difficult after heavy rain.

Route overview
A double Munro outing in the southern Highlands, exploring the grassy ridges and deep glens of Glen Lochay. This circular route links Meall Glas and Sgiath Chùil, offering expansive views across the Breadalbane hills.
Terrain and underfoot
The walk begins with a river crossing that can be problematic in high water. Underfoot, the terrain is a mix of vehicle tracks, pathless grassy ridges, and wet, boggy sections. The descent from Beinn Cheathaich and the subsequent climb to Sgiath Chùil involve exceptionally steep, grassy slopes that require careful footing, particularly in damp conditions. The return route is pathless and boggy in places.
