Sgàirneach Mhòr · Beinn Udlamain
Beinn Udlamain and Sgàirneach Mhòr
Route overview
A classic and accessible double-Munro round in the Drumochter Hills. Starting from the A9, the route climbs onto the high, rolling ridges of Sgàirneach Mhòr and Beinn Udlamain, offering expansive views across to Ben Alder and Loch Ericht before returning via the glen of Coire Dhomhain.
Terrain and underfoot
The route features a mix of broad, mossy ridges and stony paths, with wetter, boggy ground on the lower approaches. While the high-level walking is relatively straightforward, the final descent from the ridge of Beinn Udlamain back into Coire Dhomhain is very steep, rough, and pathless over awkward heather, requiring careful route-finding to avoid a ravine.
