Route overview

This highly popular Perthshire Munro offers a direct and rewarding ascent of one of Scotland's most iconic peaks. Starting from the Braes of Foss, the route follows a well-constructed path up the eastern ridge before transitioning to a rugged, boulder-strewn crest. The summit rewards walkers with expansive views stretching across Rannoch Moor to the peaks of Glencoe.

Terrain and underfoot

Underfoot conditions are excellent for the majority of the ascent, following a high-quality, stone-stepped path constructed by the John Muir Trust. However, the final section along the upper ridge becomes entirely pathless, requiring careful movement across a broad, extensive field of quartzite boulders. Navigation is straightforward in clear conditions but requires care on the boulder plateau in poor visibility.
