Route overview

This longer but low-ascent outing explores the western edge of the vast Cairngorms plateau. Starting from scenic Glen Feshie, the route climbs steadily on a landrover track to reach the high, rolling dome of Mullach Clach a' Bhlàir. The return journey descends via a rougher track over Druim nam Bo, offering a varied loop through regenerating pine forests.

Terrain and underfoot

The ascent uses a well-graded landrover track, making for straightforward walking up to the high plateau. Underfoot conditions become rougher on descent, following a fainter, eroded ATV track that can be boggy in places. Navigating the expansive, featureless summit plateau requires care in poor visibility. Near the start, the crossing of the fast-flowing burn in Glen Feshie can become impassable during periods of heavy rain.
