Route overview

This linear route tackles the isolated Munro of Gulvain, deep in West Lochaber. A long but straightforward approach along Gleann Fionnlighe leads to a sustained, steep climb up the mountain's southern shoulder. The effort is rewarded by a scenic high-level ridge walk connecting the south top to the true summit, offering expansive views across the wild western Highlands.

Terrain and underfoot

The initial approach follows a good estate track, ideal for mountain biking, which deteriorates to a rougher path further up the glen. The ascent is a relentless, very steep grassy grind on a worn, sometimes boggy path. Higher up, the terrain becomes rockier, leading to a narrow but straightforward crest. Navigating between the two summits requires care in poor visibility, as the lower south top is easily mistaken for the true summit.
