Gairich

Route overview

Gairich is a prominent, isolated Munro rising above the southern shores of Loch Cuaich. Starting with a walk across the impressive hydro-electric dam, this route offers a classic out-and-back outing. It features a mixture of boggy moorland, a fine zigzagging stalkers path, and a steep, rocky final ridge that rewards walkers with exceptional views over Knoydart and the western Highlands.

Terrain and underfoot

The route follows a continuous path, though the initial sections along the loch shore and across the Bac nam Foid plateau are notoriously boggy. Higher up, a well-graded stalkers path provides excellent footing on the ridge of Druim na Gaid Salaich. The final approach up Gairich's east ridge is very steep and requires a brief, straightforward scramble over knobbly rock. Navigation is generally clear in good visibility.
