Route overview

An exceptional out-and-back outing to the highest peaks of Assynt. Starting from Inchnadamph, the route follows a scenic glen before climbing steeply to the quartzite-shattered ridge of Conival. The rough, boulder-strewn traverse to Ben More Assynt offers a wild, desolate feel and expansive views across the unique, water-pocketed landscape of the far north-west.

Terrain and underfoot

The approach through the glen uses a clear path, which becomes boggy and heavily eroded during the initial steep climb. Higher up, the terrain transitions to exceptionally rough, quartzite scree, boulder fields, and stony ridges. Navigating the high, rocky crests requires care, particularly in poor visibility, and the final ridge traverse involves slow, demanding ground underfoot.
