Route overview
This demanding circuit from Inverlael climbs four distinct Munros, dominated by the massive, wall-guarded dome of Beinn Dearg. The route transitions from sheltered forest tracks and excellent stalkers' paths in Gleann na Sguaib to rugged, high-altitude plateaus. It offers a classic, big day out in the Northwest Highlands with expansive views stretching towards Assynt and the coast.
Terrain and underfoot
The approach and return use well-graded forest tracks and a high-quality stalkers' path. Higher up, the terrain becomes increasingly rugged, featuring pathless sections, extensive boulder fields, and steep, stony slopes. Navigation is straightforward in clear weather but requires care on the high, barren plateaus. The descent from Ceann Garbh is particularly complex, requiring careful route-finding through steep, broken crags and boulder-strewn ground.
