Route overview

This classic outing from Cluanie climbs the Corbett Am Bathach before tackling the distinctive Munro of Ciste Dhubh. The route follows a scenic, undulating ridge line offering superb views over the surrounding Kintail peaks, before returning via a gentle but damp descent through the glen of An Caorainn Beag.

Terrain and underfoot

Underfoot, the route features a mixture of well-defined grassy ridges and steep, pathless slopes. The descent from Am Bathach to the Bealach Chòinnich is particularly steep and can be slippery when wet. Both this high col and the return path down the glen of An Caorainn Beag are notoriously boggy. The final ridge to the Munro summit is narrow and rocky but straightforward.
