Route overview
This classic pair of Munros rises above the eastern shores of Loch Treig, offering a contrasting day of walking. The route climbs the rocky, defined ridge of Stob Coire Sgriodain, which boasts dramatic views over the loch, before crossing gentler, expansive high ground to the rounded dome of Chno Dearg. It is a satisfying, standard round starting from the hamlet of Fersit.
Terrain and underfoot
The terrain is highly varied, combining a steep, rocky climb up the nose of Sròn na Garbh-bheinne with broad, mossy, and often exceptionally boggy high-altitude slopes. While a clear path traces the crest of Stob Coire Sgriodain, the descent from Chno Dearg is largely pathless, crossing featureless, wet hillsides that demand careful navigation in poor visibility. No major river crossings are encountered.
