Route overview

This classic Perthshire traverse links three distinct Munro summits along a high, undulating ridge. Starting near Loch Moraig, the route climbs the prominent dome of Càrn Liath before traversing Braigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain and reaching the stony plateau of Càrn nan Gabhar. It offers an expansive, longer-than-average day out with superb views across the Atholl hills.

Terrain and underfoot

Underfoot conditions are highly varied. The initial ascent of Càrn Liath uses a well-constructed pitched stone path, but the high ridges feature stony, eroded sections and steep descents into deep cols. Navigating between the second and third peaks requires care in poor visibility. The return route down the glen is initially boggy with several minor burn crossings, before joining a firmer, contoured track back to the start.
