Deep in the remote heart of the southern Cairngorms, this exceptionally long outing visits two of the most isolated Munros. Starting with a lengthy but flat approach along Glen Geldie, the route transitions into rolling, pathless heather slopes and high peat plateaus. It offers a profound sense of solitude and expansive, open views across the vast Cairngorm wilderness.
Terrain and underfoot
The initial approach relies on excellent, flat estate tracks, ideal for mountain biking to reduce the long day. Higher up, the terrain becomes demanding, with pathless heather, peat hags, and boggy sections on the ridges. Crucially, the route requires crossing the Allt Dhaidh Mòr and the River Geldie; both lack bridges at the crossing points and can become completely impassable during or after heavy rain.
