Route overview

Starting from the high trailhead at Glenshee, this route collects three Munros with minimal climbing. While Càrn Aosda and The Cairnwell are heavily developed with ski infrastructure and telecommunication masts, the central excursion to Càrn a' Ghèoidh offers a contrasting escape into quieter, more natural rolling plateau terrain with expansive views across the Mounth.

Terrain and underfoot

The route primarily utilises broad gravel ski tracks and stony paths. The initial ascent up Càrn Aosda is steep but straightforward underfoot. The section leading to Càrn a' Ghèoidh follows a narrower, more traditional hill path across grassy slopes and a high, relatively flat plateau. Navigation is generally simple, though the plateau can become featureless in poor visibility. There are no significant water crossings.
