This classic Perthshire outing follows the scenic, deeply carved glen of Glen Tilt before ascending the broad ridge of Faire Clach-ghlais. While the final climb to the stony summit dome of Càrn a' Chlamain is steep, the long approach on excellent estate tracks makes this a highly satisfying, high-mileage journey through a historic highland landscape.
Terrain and underfoot
The route begins with a very long but gentle approach along well-maintained estate tracks and paths through Glen Tilt. The ascent of the mountain itself starts on a steep, grassy path through heather before joining a bulldozed track on the broad ridge. Underfoot conditions are generally excellent, though the final pull to the summit is stony. Navigation is straightforward in clear conditions, but the sheer length of the day requires good stamina.
