This popular out-and-back route climbs the prominent, isolated giant of Easter Ross. Starting through pleasant forestry, the trail rises steeply to the high shoulder of An Cabar before traversing a vast, mossy plateau to the spacious summit of Glas Leathad Mòr. It offers straightforward navigation on excellent paths and expansive views across northern Scotland.
Terrain and underfoot
The route follows well-constructed, clear paths throughout. The initial section through the forest is gentle, but the climb up the ridge of An Cabar is sustained and very steep, utilising stone steps to prevent erosion. Once on the high plateau, the terrain becomes a broad, mossy ridge with a gentle gradient. Navigation is straightforward in clear conditions, but the plateau is highly exposed to the elements.
