Route overview
Rising prominently above the southern edge of the Highlands, this classic duo offers an accessible yet contrasting day of hillwalking from Loch Earn. Ben Vorlich is climbed via a sustained, well-graded ridge path, providing expansive views over the Central Belt. In contrast, the continuation to the rugged peak of Stùc a' Chròin introduces a steeper, rockier character with a touch of light scrambling.
Terrain and underfoot
The initial ascent of Ben Vorlich follows a clear, constructed path that becomes increasingly eroded and steep near the summit. The traverse to Stùc a' Chròin is much rougher, requiring a descent to a high col followed by a steep climb and a short, rocky scramble up a gully. The return route contours around Coire Buidhe on a path that is highly eroded and persistently boggy in places.
