Route overview

Ben Vane is a rugged, steep-sided Munro situated in the Arrochar Alps. Starting from Loch Lomond at Inveruglas, this route follows a hydro road before tackling the mountain's rocky south-east ridge. Despite its modest height, the peak offers a surprisingly sustained climb with multiple false summits, culminating in excellent views over Loch Sloy and the surrounding peaks.

Terrain and underfoot

The approach uses a tarmac road and stony tracks. The ascent is on a steep, eroded, and rocky path that climbs directly up the ridge. There are several rocky steps near the top, including a brief, optional scramble that can be bypassed. Underfoot conditions can be boggy at the base of the ridge, but a stepped path helps avoid the worst of the wet ground.
