Route overview

Rising as an isolated sentinel above the vast peatlands of central Sutherland, Ben Klibreck offers a rewarding out-and-back expedition. This solitary Munro provides a classic northern experience, starting from the roadside and traversing a series of broad ridges and boggy cols before a final steep climb to the summit of Meall nan Con, where expansive wilderness views await.

Terrain and underfoot

The route follows a mixture of faint, boggy ATV tracks and rough hill paths. Lower sections across the initial moorland and the intermediate cols are notoriously wet and peat-hagged, where navigation can be tricky in poor visibility. The final pull up the summit pyramid of Meall nan Con is very steep and stony, but free of technical scrambling. No major river crossings are encountered.
