Route overview
This classic southern Highlands outing climbs the twin Munros of Beinn Tulaichean and Cruach Àrdrain from the quiet glen of Inverlochlarig. The route offers a direct, steep ascent onto a scenic grassy ridge, linking both summits with straightforward walking before a rougher, pathless descent returns you to the glen floor.
Terrain and underfoot
The initial climb up Beinn Tulaichean is pathless, boggy, and sustained, requiring careful route-finding to avoid minor crags. A clear path links the two summits along the high ridge. The descent from the bealach back into Inverlochlarig Glen is exceptionally steep, rough, and largely pathless, with slabby rock and broken crags that demand careful footwork.

Getting there and parking
Driving and parking
Inverlochlarig public road-end car park
Use the purpose-built free walkers car park and picnic area at Inverlochlarig. Approach from Balquhidder involves about six miles of winding single-track road.
A small gravel car park at the public-road end, with a picnic shelter. Keep the centre, farm track and road clear.

- Before you go
- The road beyond the public car park is private. Free day parking does not establish overnight stays or permission to use the farmyard.
- If it is full
- The small car park can be busy. If it is full, choose another start rather than parking on the verges.
- Food and drink
- Monachyle Mhor is on the drive through the glen. Walkers are welcome for cakes and scones without booking; the bar menu is available daily from noon to 21:00. Restaurant meals need a reservation.
