Route overview
An outstanding coastal Munro, Beinn Sgulaird offers a superb ridge walk with exceptional views over Loch Creran, Loch Etive, and the Argyll islands. Starting near sea level, the route climbs steadily to a rugged, undulating crest. The traverse over multiple summits provides a delightfully varied and rocky outing, combining grassy slopes with rougher, high-altitude terrain.
Terrain and underfoot
The lower slopes follow a clear vehicle track before transitioning to a steep, grassy ridge path. Higher up, the terrain becomes increasingly rugged, rocky, and undulating. The traverse between the summits involves navigating boulder fields, scree, and sections of slabby rock, with brief, very straightforward scrambling near the top. A steep descent on the return can be bypassed by a lower path to the main track.
