This classic circular outing from Arrochar climbs two prominent Munros in the Arrochar Alps. The route ascends the rugged, rocky ridge of Beinn Narnain before crossing the high pass of Bealach a' Mhaim to tackle the broad, grassy dome of Beinn Ìme, the highest peak in the range. The return offers a scenic descent through Coire a' Bhalachain.
Terrain and underfoot
The ascent of Beinn Narnain is steep and rugged, featuring eroded paths, boggy sections, and very mild, straightforward scrambling. In contrast, Beinn Ìme is accessed via a sustained but straightforward grassy slope on a well-constructed path. The final descent through Coire a' Bhalachain follows an excellent, highly improved gravel path, though some side streams require care on stepping stones after heavy rain.
