Beinn Mhanach

Route overview

Tucked away behind the dramatic peaks of the Bridge of Orchy, Beinn Mhanach is a rounded, grassy Munro that offers a quieter, more secluded hillwalking experience. The route follows a long, scenic approach through the deep trench of the Auch Glen before embarking on a steep, pathless climb to the high dome-like summit, where expansive views of the southern Highlands await.

Terrain and underfoot

Underfoot conditions are highly varied. The initial approach relies on a well-defined estate track, but this requires multiple significant river crossings that can easily become impassable when the water is high or in spate. Once leaving the glen, the ascent is entirely pathless, traversing steep, unrelenting grassy slopes and boggy ground. Good navigational skills are essential, particularly on the broad, featureless summit plateau in poor visibility.
