Beinn Ghlas · Ben Lawers

Ben Lawers and Beinn Ghlas

Route overview

This classic circular outing climbs two of Perthshire's highest peaks directly from a high-level start. Following well-constructed paths throughout, the route ascends Beinn Ghlas before traversing a scenic ridge to the summit of Ben Lawers. It offers exceptional views over Loch Tay and the surrounding highlands, returning via a convenient western bypass path.

Terrain and underfoot

Underfoot conditions are excellent, featuring well-maintained, constructed gravel paths and stone steps, though sections become increasingly rocky and steep on the upper ridges. The route is highly exposed to mountain weather due to its high-altitude start and ridge-line character. Navigation is straightforward in clear conditions but requires care on the broad summits in poor visibility.

Beinn Ghlas · Ben Lawers · Meall Corranaich · Meall a' Choire Lèith

Ben Lawers and the western four Munros

Route overview

This four-Munro circuit combines the popular summits of Beinn Ghlas and Ben Lawers with the quieter Meall Corranaich and Meall a' Choire Lèith. Well-built paths make an inviting start, with extensive views across Loch Tay and the surrounding mountains. The latter two peaks offer a wilder, more secluded character, before the return over rough ground to the reservoir road and back to the car park.

Terrain and underfoot

Well-maintained paths lead over Beinn Ghlas and Ben Lawers, with steeper, rockier stretches on the upper climbs. Beyond the Beinn Ghlas bypass, the climb to Meall Corranaich is steep and narrow in places, followed by less distinct paths. The return includes a steep grassy descent, becoming boggy further down, with stream crossings too. The route spends considerable time high up and can be exposed to strong winds. Navigation requires care in poor visibility, particularly on Meall Corranaich and Meall a' Choire Lèith.
