Route overview
This classic high-level circuit links four Munros from the remote base of Culra. Traversing Càrn Dearg, Geal Chàrn, Aonach Beag, and Beinn Èibhinn, the route offers an excellent ridge walk with expansive views across the Ben Alder forest. It combines steep, pathless climbs with vast grassy plateaus and a scenic return through the Bealach Dubh.
Terrain and underfoot
The route features a mixture of terrain, beginning with a steep, pathless heather ascent. Once on the crest, walking is generally good along grassy ridges, though the climb onto the Geal Chàrn plateau is very steep. Navigation on the high, undulating plateaus requires care in poor visibility. The descent is rough and boggy before joining a well-maintained stalkers' path through the Bealach Dubh.
