This classic Crianlarich pairing offers an enjoyable ridge walk over two distinct Munros. Starting near the River Falloch, the route climbs the prominent ridge of Twistin Hill to the peak of An Caisteal, before crossing a high col to tackle the rugged, undulating crest of Beinn a' Chròin. It is a rewarding and highly accessible day out in the southern Highlands.
Terrain and underfoot
The route mainly follows hill paths, which are clear on the ridges but can be boggy on the lower slopes and eroded on descent. The ascent of Beinn a' Chròin involves a short, steep scramble up a rocky buttress, though this can be bypassed. Good navigation skills are required on the undulating plateau of Beinn a' Chròin, particularly in poor visibility, and the final glen return crosses burns that may swell after heavy rain.
