Route overview

This Munro outing traverses extensive boggy moorland and features a serious river crossing before ascending the rolling northern plateau of Am Faochagach. The upper grassy ridges offer simple walking and the summit rewards walkers with superb, unobstructed views across to the dramatic dome of Beinn Dearg.

Terrain and underfoot

Underfoot conditions are exceptionally wet, beginning with a very boggy moorland crossing and a major wade across the Abhainn a' Ghrabainn, which can become dangerous and impassable in spate. A faint path climbs steeply alongside the Allt na h-Uidhe to reach a broad, grassy ridge. Navigation is generally simple in clear weather, but the high, featureless plateau requires careful compass work if cloud descends.
