Route overview

This classic Glen Shiel horseshoe takes in two high, commanding Munros. Starting with a relentless, direct climb onto the broad south ridge of A' Chralaig, the route transitions into a dramatic, narrow crest leading to Mullach Fraoch-choire. The traverse offers superb, expansive views across Glen Affric and Loch Cluanie, concluding with a descent through a quiet glen.

Terrain and underfoot

The initial ascent is exceptionally steep on a grassy, sometimes boggy path. The high ridge between the summits is well-defined, narrowing significantly on the approach to Mullach Fraoch-choire where some light, avoidable scrambling is required. The descent from the bealach into Coire Odhar is initially loose and steep, leading to a very wet and boggy walk out through the An Caorann Mor glen.
