This classic circular outing explores the western Fannichs, taking in two contrasting Munros. Starting near Loch a' Bhraoin, the route climbs the prominent ridge of Leitir Fhearna to reach the high, undulating crests of Sgùrr Breac and A' Chailleach. Walkers are rewarded with superb, expansive views over the Fisherfield Forest and the northern Highlands.
Terrain and underfoot
The route features a mix of terrain, beginning with a boggy and steep ascent up Leitir Fhearna. Once on the high ridges, the walking becomes more straightforward on grassy crests and stony plateaus. However, the descent from A' Chailleach via Sròn na Goibhre is exceptionally steep, pathless, and boggy, requiring careful route-finding to avoid crags and navigate a steep, pathless slope down to the corrie floor.
